Kerry book semi-final spot as Armagh crash out of Christy Ring Cup

The Orchard County now face a relegation playoff with Down.

Kerry 3-18

Kildare 1-16

KERRY HAVE BOOKED their place in the semi-finals of the Christy Ring Cup after an eight point win over Kildare in Newbridge today.

Three goals in the last 15 minutes of the first half was enough to see Eamonn Kelly’s men join Meath in the final four; Padraig Boyle (2) and Shane Nolan finding the net for the Kingdom to give them a 3-9 to 0-11 lead at the break.

Kildare stayed in touch when goalkeeper Paul Dermondy raised the green flag with a penalty 10 minutes after the break but Kerry pulled away in the closing stages.

While the Kingdom advance to the semi-final, Kildare are not out of the competition but will have to beat Mayo next Saturday for a chance to join them.

Wicklow 3-19 Armagh 3-13

Armagh, however, are out after a six point defeat at home to Wicklow this afternoon. The Garden County will play Derry next week.

Despite trailing 1-8 to 0-8 at the break – Declan Coulter with the Armagh goal – Wicklow bounced back in the second half, Andy O’Brien with two goals before Mikey Lee wrapped up the tie.

Armagh now face a relegation playoff with Down.

Elsewhere, Donegal beat Louth 5-14 to 1-9 in their round two Nicky Rackard Cup qualifier in Dowdallshill while, in the Lory Meagaher Cup, Warwickshire had three points to spare over Leitrim while Fermanagh and Longford drew.
